Prescribed Burn Events in 2020
Information on Prescribed Burn Events in 2020
Nebraska Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever is pleased to announce the schedule for our 2020 prescribed fire training workshops (See Attachment). This series of 9 basic and advanced workshops are being held across the state to provide training to landowners, land managers, resource professionals, volunteer fire departments, and others interested in the application and ecology of fire.
This year we will be conducting 6 introduction to prescribed fire workshops that will provide a solid foundation on the fundamentals of planning, preparing, and conducting a prescribed fire. Topics include fire ecology, fire behavior, equipment, preparation, techniques, safety, fireline positions, burn plans, regulations, and fire weather. The cost of these workshops is $10 and includes a book and meal.
This year we will be conducting 3 advanced workshops. The burn plan writing will take an in depth look into writing a prescribed burn plan that meets and exceeds the Nebraska statue for open burning and is open to anyone wishing to learn about the planning process. The Southwest Learn and Burn advanced workshop will continue on our previous successful live fire demonstration days where we treat them as would a prescribed burn association. Sign up on our website and when the conditions are within prescription, we will send out emails and texts to those wishing to attend. There will be no requirement to attend and you will hopefully have multiple burns over the course of a week to pick from. For our final advanced workshop, we will be bringing back our popular growing season burn workshops next August so look for those in early summer as we get them scheduled.
Pheasants Forever is proud to continue to offer these workshops across the state in partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service – Partners For Conservation, Nebraska Prescribed Fire Council, and the Nebraska Environmental Trust. Since 2008, Pheasants Forever along with its partners have held a total of 140 workshops reaching 3,500 people with the goal to increase our capacity, use, and public awareness of prescribed fire for wildlife, livestock, and ecosystem management.
